A physician’s group that specialized in gastroenterology constructed a 12,540-square-foot digestive health clinic within a new medical office building (MOB) in West Chester Township, Ohio. The clinic specialized in preventing, diagnosing, and treating digestive and liver disorders such as celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, hepatitis, and cirrhosis. The clinic’s goal was to advance the delivery of care for patients suffering from all digestive health conditions.

Color theory was taken into consideration when choosing the color palette. Autumn red was a major part of my concept, but as it can be seen as a negative color, I used it sparingly. Instead, the design leaned heavily on blues and greens with accents of red and orange in the smaller details, as blue and green are colors that have been proven to be calming colors.

HIPPA, or Patient Privacy, was a major consideration while designing this clinic. There are many ways this applies, including acoustical considerations such as acoustic ceiling features or softer materials to help absorb the noise.

Paths of travel were considered heavily when designing this space, specifically for the staff. The goal was to reduce the amount of walking the staff had to reduce fatigue.

Way-finding was a major part of this project. Examples include several clearly labeled signs, as well as more subtle details such as the flooring design seen in the Hallway + Small Waiting Room.

Infusion Suite

This calm, quiet suite provides a restorative environment for patients receiving scheduled infusions. Each of the six infusion bays accommodates the patient + up to two guests, creating a comfortable + supportive setting. It is designed to function efficiently with space for up to five nurses. All materials were selected to evoke the tranquility of the nearby state parks. Solar sensors automatically adjust the window shades based on sunlight levels, with the option for manual remote control as needed.
