This project was completed during the month-long break between the fall and spring semesters as part of an internship with Hinson Miller Kickirillo Architects (HMK Architects). As an intern, I contributed to designing a prototype for future freestanding emergency departments.
The Fairfield County Freestanding ED, previously designed by HMK Architects, served as a reference for programmatic and design elements. The prototype includes four exam rooms, additional rooms reserved for future expansion, and a compact imaging suite with CT and radiology capabilities.
The exterior design incorporates a dark brick watertable topped with lighter brick and accented by metal panel feature walls. A large curtain wall on the front façade allows natural light to flood the waiting area and staff lounge while enhancing the office shell space on the second floor.
Timeframe:
December 2024 - January 2025
The interior programming for this project was informed by a previously designed freestanding emergency department by HMKA to ensure that all required spaces were appropriately included.
